Jacksonville is a big small town.  There is a lot to do and plenty of restaurants and shops.  I have lived in Beaufort SC (Parris Island) and this is a huge improvement.  I have only been here for 4 months but I really like it.  We own a home so I don't know about base housing; however I have seen the homes and they look great.  Tarawa Terrace II is gorgeous.  I can definitely see this being home.

I took my daughter to this gym out in town called Classic Allstars cheer and dance. Beware the people are rude they over charged us. Payed for a uniform and I still do not have it paid almost $500 for it.

I have lived in Jacksonville for almost 3 years now. It takes a little to get used to but all in all it grows on you. The base itself has a lot to offer for everyone. I do not live on base we own our own house. J-ville has a good variety of stores and places to eat. Its not a HUGE town but its not small either. All and all  its a good town with a good base :)

As for the area itself to me off base has everything you need just no 'plus more'(but keep in mind that I am a city girl and am accustomed to having an abundance of stores around me). You can find just about all your typical main chain stores/restaurants (or at least a mini version of one) and many local shops too all on the main strip at Western Blvd. Oh and there is only one Starbucks (which the drive thru is always ridiculously long). There is a mall on the strip which I haven't visited yet but from what I hear it has a couple stores in it and a movie theater. As for on base I find the exchange to be a little expensive (which is not normal - but might be because there so much competition off base). There is also a Dunkin Donuts Dominos Burger king Wendy's (not yet open but soon) and other food options on base (plenty I would say).

All in all I enjoy living on base (especially for dealing with traffic purposes). There is always something to do with your family and there is a lot of support if you look for it. I'm excited to have more great experiences in Camp Lejeune with my family.

There is a lot of things to do in North Carolina fishing beaches the beaches are great. Top Sail is really nice Emeral Island Fort Macon Beach. There are plenty of beaches to see. There are great fishing spots on the base they have beach houses that you can rent for cheap at Onslow Beach. The base has lots of activities there a gym at each housing site. They just renovated the movie theater its only $2 there is only one theater out in town and they charge $9.50 for a ticket you can get discount tickets on the base at the gas station and the exchange. Myrtle Beach is a few hours away and there is a lot things to do there shopping lots of shopping in Myrtle Beach. Not much shopping in Jacksonville Wilmington (45 min) great mall has a lot more stores. Over all cost of living is cheap nice area its lot of rural country feeling area with nice beaches.
