Emilie M. asks: So we're moving to Ft.Hood in the early summer and I'm trying to figure out which villages on post an E4 can live in. We have 2 children and so would be eligible for 3 bedrooms based on the housing website but apparently every single link for the villages that is supposed to tell you where you can live per pay grade and dependents is broken. And of course any and all other information is much appreciated.

Housing on installation?

So far it hasn?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢t been all too bad..nice spacious housing. We live in Pershing park. It?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s been relatively quiet here. The only bad thing is that we had our car broken in to, so make sure you lock EVERYTHING up. On a good note the village has get togethers, town hall meetings and is quick to respond when there is a problem that arises.

Housing off installation?
Off post?¢‚Ǩ¬¶..no! If I did live off post I would go to one of the neighboring towns. Killeen is ghetto to say the least. When Ft. Hood releases traffic is horrible. Rent for a three bedroom Is about/around 800 for a house.

Housing on installation?

while we lived off post, I had lots of friends in housing. but I think I had more friends that lived off post b/c of the WAITING list for housing.
housing on Ft. Hood is pretty good overall!!
just one of those things, you don?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢t think so while you are there, but looking back at it, it?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s a great place!!
Housing off installation? the BEST thing to do is go to a rental place ?¢‚Ǩ‚Äú if you are patient, you can find lots of great deals. we were able to rent a 3 bed/2 bath house in a beautiful neighborhood for $650 a month!! in a neighborhood off Stan Schleuder, right across from a beautiful playground!!

At Fort Hood residing in on-post housing is voluntary, not mandatory, except for personnel assigned to Key and Essential Positions, as designated by the Installation Commander. In processing through the Housing Services Office is mandatory.

Lend Lease Actus manages the privatized housing on Fort Hood. Privatized housing consists of 12 villages with over 6,100 units of military housing, rangeing from single houses to eight-plexes and two to five bedrooms. There are 5,814 units for enlisted personnel and 618 units for officers.

Waiting periods vary, based on bedroom requirements and number of personnel on the waiting lists. Most newly assigned personnel will be required to live off-post for some period of time. The waiting period for enlisted personnel varies from 1 month to 24 months and for officers from 2 months to 12 months.

Soldiers desiring to apply for on-post housing must do so within 30 days of their arrival at Ft Hood to receive an eligibility date back to the date of departure from last permanent duty station. If application is made after the initial 30 days, the eligibility date will be the date of the application.

All soldiers in grades E-1 and above with a family housing requirement may apply for on-post family housing.

Hi,

Everyone is titled to their own opinions. With regards to living on post, it isnt a bad choice for a couple that doesnt necessarily have everything in order, and by that I mean, if you have three kids and dont have the money to afford paying for a big place. On post can offer you more room, and the ability to be close to schools. ?¢‚Ǩ¬¶ Fort Hood has many on post villages, somehwere like 11-12 villages. Now not all of them are new, but even the older houses arent bad. I live in a house that was probably built in the 60?¢‚Ǩ¬?s, and its got hard wood floors, 3br. 1.5bath, great living room space, as well as a backyard, and extra storage. No place is perfect, but for my family its great. Living off post can be difficult, with traffic, bills, water, and power, plus gas, etc etc. If you can afford it, then please be my guest, but me as an E-5 with 5 yrs service and married with a baby, it was getting very hard to keep up with the jump in rent, and the electricity bills were crazy.

Also, I recommend that if you can, before you get here to Hood, drive around and look at the different towns, i.e harker heights, killeen, cove. Some people dont mind the drive and would like to live a little farther away. Some others want to be closer to post.

Ive been here for years, and new houses are being built daily. If you have questions, let me know. I wont lean one way or another, i will answer you questions to the best of my ability.
