My oldest daughter is attending 1st grade at the primary school on base. She loves the school and her teacher. I, so far, have no complaints. Every time I have visited, the staff and teachers have been very welcoming and kind. It is a ‘multiage’ setting where class grades are mixed.
In my daughters class she has kindergarten, 1st grade, and 2nd grade all together. It’s the teaching model to reach the child where they are. They have different settings (like single grade level only) but I’m not sure how they go about placement yet since we came in mid-year. The school days are also longer. They start at 830 and get out at 320 and every Wednesday they are dismissed at 145. It’s the belief that children retain more knowledge and information in longer hauls and with more breaks — or something like that.
