We chose to live off base because we were told when we were moving here that there would be no base housing available to us. We had a wonderful realtor in Katie Hammer and when we needed to rent out our house with for a PCS we had yet another wonderful experience with Kellie Zach (realtor) and Lisa Chandley (property manager) with getting our house ready and on the market... and it rented in less than a week! :) 

I've heard good and bad about living on base. The base housing here is limited because there are so many people in the area BUT if you can get on base it's a FANTASTIC deal because you don't have to budget out utilities and that saves you a bundle! Living off base can be great too if you get into a great neighborhood. Having someone who knows the area well who can help you with housing is always a good idea. (I highly recommend Kellie and Katie!)
