We have been to Montgomery twice and have lived off base, and on base at both Maxwell(2 years ago) and Gunter(17years ago). Living on base is ok, but the quarters can be on the small side. We lived in the larger old row housing @ Maxwell last, and it was ok for a short tour. The housing @ Gunter is a little nicer, and some of it is a lot newer. If you are going to live off base I would reccomend living in Prattville, or towards Wetumpka. In Montgomery itself you will probably want to stay on the east/north east side. One thing to consider is many who live in Montgomery send their kids to private schools. So if schooling is a factor take a good look at the schools.

I don?「どィび「t know about Gunter housing options, but I wouldn?「どィび「t want to live in Montgomery anyway. The only place that?「どィび「s semi-decent (and semi-safe) is east Montgomery, past the Shoppes at Eastchase. Personally I have experience with the Millbrook area, which is about 20 minutes north of the base, off I-65 as you?「どィび「re headed towards Birmingham. I chose Millbrook for the low crime rate?「どィャカhowever, there is little of anything else there, either. I got very bored. But did I mention no crime? Plus if you have kids, the best school districts are in the Prattville/Millbrook area and the neighborhoods are nicely situated for children. Most of the homes have large yards and little traffic up and down the streets.

Since we were only there for a short period of time they set us up in married housing with our flight. It was like living in an apartment that had a cleaning service. The cleaning ladies are incredibly nice and do a great job. Just realize that you can generally hear your neighbors if they are REALLY loud in these apartments.

If you are going to be stationed there for a long period of time I do know that a lot of people opt to live in Prattville, the historic area of Montgomery, or much further down I-85. The area around the base is not a good area to live, and I don?「どィび「t know of anyone who lives right next to the base.
