If you live on the Academy side you will be in district 20 which is one of the best districts to be in. If you take housing at Peterson it\'s district 11. I heard the high school is okay but the lower grades were iffy. My kids are in district 49 and we live off base out in Peyton. We\'re about a 20 minute drive from Peterson and Schriever and 30 minutes from the Academy. If you accept housing at Schriever which is also new housing they don\'t have services out there. There is a fitness center cdc and gas station and that\'s it and the school district is out in Ellicot and they do 4 day school days. So far my kids love their schools and I\'m happy we chose to live off base for once even though I\'ve noticed at all 3 bases there is brand new housing. I think you\'ll like it out here. Once you get here and you need anything just let one of us know

School districts: District 12 (cheyenne) and 20 (Academy) have the best reviews. Falcon/Peytong I guess are alright as well. Here are the ratings for the schools in 2010 - most do not change very much from one year to the next so you can still go by it. http://www.militarydutystations-blog.com/2010/12/26/peterson-afb-ft-carson-schriever-afb-schools0/

It'll give you a good idea of what to look for. Make sure you check if there is bus transportation. D-12 does not have ANY. That can put you in pickle.

Kathleen said:  Peterson School District has mixed reviews. Peterson's kids go to Mitchell high school.  Mitchell got a bad
reputation back in the late 80s and early 90s.  However I am at
the school one or two days a week and would recommend it to
anyone.  They have many great programs at my kid loves it.
Mitchell has the largest JrROTC program in the state and it is
awesome.  I just sat on the committee to hire the new principal and
am excited about whoever it ultimately hired. The middle school is
James Swigert I don't know much about it but our youngest will be
going there next year.  Middle kid goes to a different middle
school because that is where we were zoned when we got here.  (We
  have been rezoned.) ---March 2010
