Most rank below E^ live off base in private rental.  You generally get a choice.  Everyone else lives on post.  Haven't heard to many good reviews of living on post.  It's all stairwell living on or off post.  We live in private rental about 20 minutes from base.  If you choose private rental make sure the landlords are legit.  And find someone who speaks German to help you out with electric etc.  Houses are pretty nice off post.

Housing on installation? There are two main housing areas on post.. Askren and Yorktown. Yorktown is for single families since the townhouses only have 2 rooms.. Askren offers bigger apartments but i have heard that there are always fighst with neighbors things get stolen and cars get broken into.----------- Housing off installation? You can rent off post you can go thru housing they have a list of places available off post or you can also find an apartment on your own and then talk to housing to do the paperwork.-----Carol W.
