I have two dogs and have had nothing but good experiences with Dayton South Veterinary Clinic and Poochie Bath for bathing/grooming.

Not a bad area to live at all.  Typical Midwest climate: cold winters not too much snow; cool wet spring mild summer.  Kettering Beavercreek Oakwood and Centerville are probably the best places to live unless you want to look farther out in Xenia or north of I-70.

Hardly any traffic except for I-75 at rush hour.  I-675 is great.

Some specifics:

Recreation: lots of outdoors-y things to do.  The city park system is very well organized.  Get a copy of the "Parkways" magazine to find FREE classes ranging from toddler nature walks to organic gardening to cooking gluten free to beginner kayaking--lots of fun family stuff!  Or go online here: http://www.metroparks.org/Home.aspx

Also all state parks are FREE admission.  Very good hiking and camping opportunities available.  Hocking Hills State Park is 2 hrs away and has been called one of the best places to camp in the United States!

Restaurants:

Must try Christopher's in Kettering for great homecooked meals.  Organic coffee organic meats gluten free menu available but not at all pretentious.  Family friendly and I highly recommend going there for breakfast--it's what they do best!

Also good: Milano's (Italian subs on house baked fresh bread) Dublin Pub Siam Pad Thai

If you find yourself in Cinncinnati (which is close enough for a night out) restaurant Local 127 is absolutely divine! (not family friendly--good date night!)

PCSing: If you're doing a partial DITY there is a CAT scales weigh station on I-75 about 10 miles south of 675.  As far as I know there is no longer a scale on base.

My family was stationed at WPAFB in 2003 for two years. It was a difficult time to be stationed there as they were in the process of tearing down really old base housing and rebuilding new base housing. We got the short end of the stick and had to move into a new house for literally 3 months before our next PCS.

I can tell you that I enjoyed living in this area. Dayton has the Air Force museum there which is free to go to and very informative. With lots of great exhibits to look at. Dayton is located an hour either way from Cincinnati or Columbus. Both had fun things to do. I would suggest getting a season?「どィび「s pass for King?「どィび「s Island. FUN!

Down side would be the schools are not the best in this area. I would consider home schooling or going to the parochial schools in the area.

I really love WPAFB. Or maybe I love the Dayton area. Or both! We were here on TDY during the fall of 2007. The area right around the base is ghetto, but there are so many nice parts of Dayton and the surrounding communities! Plus the local library system is awesome. There are also lots of fun local festivals to attend. For an Air Force Base, WPAFB doesn?「どィび「t do too bad

The base has in general positive reviews. It is thought of as clean and family friendly. There are a lot of things to do in the area. There have been opinions that folks in Ohio are generally friendly and make you feel comfortable. It is a military friendly community.

Just like pretty much every other big installation you?「どィび「ll find a commissary, a bx but also a garden center a small car store and several gas stations. GNC, Pizza place, Burger King in the BX are pretty much standard as well. Furthermore find Barber, eye care center and a small home d?ノャゥcor store inside the BX. The BX is not the the greatest place to go for clothes, but you?「どィび「ll find a wide selection of electronics. The commissary is adequate but the produce is not always the best quality. You?「どィび「ll find out that every commissary falls short in certain areas and excels in others, produce is usually one of those short comings. You?「どィび「ll find yourself shopping somewhere else for that.
It has been commented that Youth Sports is well organized and equipment issued is in good condition and promptly available. The Family Community Center is a fun place to take the family. You?「どィび「ll find pool tables, air hockey, foosball, and video games on the various gaming systems.

There is shopping in the Dayton Mall and a mall in Beavercreek. Of course, you?「どィび「ll find movie theaters, museums in this town. Make sure you check out all the parks in and around the city. Take a look at ?「どィ?For Kids?「どィャ for suggestions with children. However, there have been opinions that there is not too much to do. I guess it would go along with the fact that Dayton is not a metropolis nor is it in the middle of an exciting outdoor paradise. It?「どィび「s propably like everything else, it?「どィび「s what you make of it.

The new Greene Shopping Center is a pleasant place to spent some time. Find good restaurants around all areas. Highest rated on YELP:
1. Dewey?「どィび「s Pizza
2. Tank?「どィび「s Bar & Grill
3. Christopher?「どィび「s Restaurant and Catering
4. Taqueria Mixteca
Find a lot of college games, concerts and exhibitions at the EJ Nutter Center
