  • Megan G. says: We recently left Ft. Carson. It's beautiful there!!! Not a ton of crime it is a city though so you just have to be conscious of where you live. On post the kids go to Fountain-Fort Carson District 8 which is a pretty good district. If you live off post try to live in either Cheyenne Mountain District 12 or Academy School District 20. I taught in D20 but it's in the northern part of Colorado Springs near the Air Force Academy. D12 is closer to post outside of the main gate. Housing is reasonable off post and at times the waiting list for on post housing is quite long. They are (or were) building new on post housing near gate 1- I want to say it was NCO housing? You can find more info on housing on Carson's website as well as info on the schools on the respective districts websites. There are a TON of things to do - pretty much anything you can imagine aside from beach activities lol.

  • Jackie Z. says: As far as housing we like being off post and close to everything but Carson. if you want on post or near Carson you'll want to be in Fountain which is district 8 schools. If you'd rather be close to amenities like stores places to eat and things to do the Springs Ranch area is great which would be district 49 for schools. You also live on Peterson AFB. As far as activities hope you like beautiful outdoors there's tons to see and do. Check out mykidsweek.com and coloradosprings.com for such info.

  • Tammy R. says: Just want to add if you are stationed at carson and live in D20 the drive to work is about 45-50 minutes could be worse if there is a wreck. That is the area I was trying for since I heard the schools were so good up there. But we finally made our home in Fountain and I must say I am completely satisfied with the school district and it is not as congested as some areas and still close to shopping Malls etc. Love Love the area and the weather so far we got here this July and everyone seems very nice and helpful. But you will get dried out and need tons of water and use humidifiers for sure. The housing is much higher in D12 more than BAH in Fountain housing is very reasonable compared to NC and housing is a bit higher in D20. Homes do NOT stay on market long in any of these areas only about 1-5 days. Happy Pcs'ing :o)

  • Cindy S. says: We just moved here and found a place north east of Peterson air force base and we love the area. Takes 25-30 minutes to get to Carson but we are also close to some shopping centers too. We were told the North West side of Colorado Springs was really nice but my husband wasn't willing to take the 45-50 minute drive to Carson.

  • Princess K. says: We lived at the Airforce Academy and we loved it...but it was a long drive. We lived on Carson for 3 months and sue to drama with neighbors we moved off. To me it was okay I heard that district 20 has better schools.

  • Army Housing says: Hi Chantelle to view your housing options you can check out the Army Housing Online User Services Website (https://www.housing.army.mil/ah) and for off-post housing you can look on www.ahrn.com. Fort Carson Family Housing is also on Facebook too. Hope this helps.
