Housing is phenominal! Definitely the best thing about being stationed there. My husband was a jnco when we were stationed there and we had a new large home. The homes area duplex -but you wouldn't know it. One side is a 2 story and the other a single story. They connect at the garage and a bit of the kitchen. We never heard our neighbors. I also LOVED the amount of storage in the houses. We were in a single story and the laundry room is huge and fully shelved so you have a ton of space to keep things. You also have big yards (which is nice for those of us with fur babies) and you do have the option of installing a fence yourself -as long as you remove before leaving. We bought a fence off the base paper from another moving family for 25$ and then sold it when we pcsed to another family in the same situation. They came and moved the fence themself! My only peeve was the 'water bugs' or giant cockroaches lol. They were everywhere. I was able to bug bomb our house to get rid of them but it was a huge hassle nonetheless!

Housing is privatized. http://www.columbusfamilyhousing.com/ They have alot of new housing, Magnolia, which is really nice, but cheaply built like most AF housing. Many of the pilot families end up in Capitol which is older housing because we aren?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢t here as long as permanent party.

They are building a new CDC which is supposed to open this fall. The school?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s in Columbus are not great, and most people send their kids to private school or to the public school in Caledonia. http://www.lowndes.k12.ms.us/
