ON BASE HOUSING
Ellsworth AFB has four main housing areas (Prairie View Estates, Rushmore Heights, Dakota Ridge and Centennial Estates). We currently have a total of 1,304 units.

Presently, we do not have any privatized housing. Our inventory consists of government owned and leased units. In 2004 we opened 100 three/four bedroom units for junior enlisted (Prairie View Estates). In 2006, we opened 75 four bedroom units, also for junior enlisted (Rushmore Heights). In Nov 2008, we opened another 52 units comprised of senior officer, company/field grade officer, and senior enlisited homes (Rushmore Heights). In the summer of 2009 we opened 56 more four bedroom units for junior enlisted personnel (Rushmore Heights).

All units are located on base, except for our Dakota Ridge housing area (senior enlisted and officers). It was built in 1990, and is located about 16 miles from the base in the Southeast area of Rapid City.

The Centennial Estates housing area is for junior/senior enlisted, and field grade/senior officers. This area was built in 1990/1991.

OFF-BASE HOUSING

Lots of people buy homes either in Box Elder or Rapid Valley.
?¢‚Ǩ?ìU.S. Air Force base Ellsworth AFB in Rapid City, S.D. Close to Box Elder S.D., it has a moderate median household income of about $35,000, and the average home price is about $136,000. This is down from about $268,000 in 2004, and it?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s increased throughout 2009 providing a glimpse of stability. The crime rate is relatively low and the community boasts close to 70,000 people. It has great dining and shopping for those looking for entertainment and is partly driven by tourism. There is also a vast cultural experience available with community theatres, playhouses, arts centers, and museums. Additionally, you?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢ll find national parks and a high quality of life in Rapid City.?¢‚Ǩ¬ù

We can assist you in locating adequate and suitable off-base housing. You can contact us by calling DSN 675-2568/2570 or commercial (605) 385-2568/2570. Our office is located across the street from the shoppette. However, if you would like to get started on your search before you arrive at Ellsworth AFB, there is a DoD sponsored web site (AHRN) designed to improve and speed up the process of military service members and their families securing available off-base community housing rentals.

After completing the AHRN registration process, military service members will be able to:
?Ǭ? Search for available rental listings in and around military installations.
?Ǭ? Review information of all available properties listed within the AHRN database.
?Ǭ? Contact available property owners/realtors.
?Ǭ? Obtain driving directions to available rental properties.
All incoming personnel are required by Air Force Instruction (AFI) 32-6001 to report to the Military Family Housing (MFH) office before making any rental, lease, or purchase arrangements for off-base housing.
**Important** Bringing your pet to the Rapid City area can be a problem. Only 4 pet units are available in the TLF. Most Rapid City landlords will not allow pets, and those that do usually require a large pet deposit and even extra monthly charges. Many new arrivals board their pets in kennels or other pet boarding facilities. ONLY two pets are allowed in MFH if they are properly cared for. There are no waivers for additional pets.

Our housing referral assistant will attempt to resolve complaints or disputes to the mutual agreement of all parties relating to damage, indebtedness, lease disagreements, security deposits, etc. Contact us at 385-2574 if our services are needed.

Ellsworth AFB does not currently have anyone on a restrictive sanction list.

Please immediately report to our office (385-2574) any form of discrimination involving race, color, sex, national origin, or any other complaints that concern off-base housing facilities.
