Three elementary schools are on base. Orion elementary school is where my daughter is attending and just started her second grade year there. She went through half a year in first grade. The PTA group has been struggling. I had a friend help last year and only two parents were involved. They definitely need more participation. The teachers are wonderful and tons of field trips. Buses are free!!! We did qualify for the free lunch program. Another great thing about the schools here is the list of supplies needed is extremely small and basic. (In Hawaii the list was ridiculously long!).
No uniforms are required at this school, but your child must have required snow gear in the winter months. Each child is to have a pair of ?¢‚Ǩ?ìpe shoes?¢‚Ǩ¬ù which are kept indoors. When they go outside they wear their snow boots and switch tot heir pe shoes inside. This keeps the floors clean and the kids warm.
We have gone on several field trips and some are at a low cost or free! It?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s wonderful how many opportunities our daughter has been involved in at this school. They are more advanced than the Hawaii school system and our daughter had quite a bit of catching up to do.
Of course, each parent will have their positives and negatives about each school. Just keep an open mind and try to get involved.
