The hospital is huge and has pretty much everything you need. The only problem I have is how long you have to wait on hold to make an appointment or talk to anybody. Plus they are always so booked that when you call to make an appointment, it is likely your appointment will be in a month or two.

We do have a hospital with an emergency room, pediatrics clinic and family practice clinic on base. The pharmacy is decently quick compared to other bases, and if you are in uniform it is even quicker. Be warned that some referrals take an extended period of time for approval and you may be sent off base. Another forewarning is that some referrals can take people all the way to seattle if the Anchorage area does not have the support for the medical condition or there is a wait longer than six months. So far, we have not had that problem, but we have friends who have gone to Seattle for treatment.

If you are pregnant or have children there is a WIC office in the Elmendorf hospital! I love this, because it?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s right on base! The office is wonderful, with a great staff and if you need a sooner appointment ask to be put on a cancellation list. Wic, provides you with your regular wic checks and in the summer months you get checks for the farmers market. $25 per child who qualifies. Wic changes often here and make sure to keep up on new information as they take or add items to the list.
