Hello my wife and I are currently in the process in purchasing a new home and we are going to be placing our current home for rent which is only four years old.  We are the the only owners that have lived in this home.  The house is in great shape and is about five minutes from a middle school ten to a elementary school and about fifteen to the high school.  The house is in a great location and is about 1300 sq. ft.  We will be placing it on the market around late july or aug and are only asking the minimum payment amount.  If anyone is moving out here to FT. Bliss around that time frame and wants more info please feel free to contact me.

-Hector Jr.

Cynthia K. states: When looking non-base housing before you buy or rent make sure what part of base solider will be on....there is Bliss Biggs and East Bliss. You don't want live on one side of town and work on the other because the commute is awful here.

Jazzma G. states: I am from the Bliss area....I know that almost all of the on post housing is brand new and off post the Northeast is a short drive from the main gate however if your looking to buy El Paso has a lot of brand new areas that are very well priced right now...

Housing on installation?
We live in a brand new home and love it. We have never had any issues with having the few repairs needed taken care of. The staff at Balfour Beatty has always been nice and very helpful when needed.

There are some people who say they have gotten into post housing immediately however I do not know any personally. I do know two families and mine that have spent at least one year on the wait list. There are different areas in El Paso; North East, East/Far East, West, Central. As we were told when we first moved here in 2009 don?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢t look below I10 (Central). We lived in the Far East in 2009 and it was nice. It?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s conveniently located by a lot of shopping however according to crime reports it has gone down hill somewhat. We have lived in the North East for almost a year and absolutely love it! The neighborhood we live in is older and most of the people have lived here for some time. The biggest plus is the kids actually play outside all the time. It is farther away from the ?¢‚Ǩ?ìshopping?¢‚Ǩ¬ù but that is just fine with us. That?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s my two cents worth.

We PCS?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢d to Bliss in Jan 2009 and were lucky enough to get housing within 24hrs. We accepted a house in the 801 housing area, which is located off post in the NE. We accepted the house ?¢‚Ǩ?ìas is?¢‚Ǩ¬ù but aside from the walls not being freshly painted and the floors not being buffed/waxed, it was fine. I personally hate moving into a house that still reeks of paint fumes and with 3 kids and a 4th on the way, we refused to spend the 3wks they said it would take to get into another house. The neighborhood isn?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢t bad by any means and the school is within walking distance. I?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢m sure there are other places that are better to live, however due to BAH being low and the rates for rentals being so high, it was our best option.

They seem to have deemed this housing area (801) as the step-child of the housing office. Everything about seems to be seperate from management to location. I have had nothing but problems as far as trying to get repairs done and trying to contact someone in the office is like pulling teeth! I?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢ve heard every excuse in the book when it comes to major repairs (like our leaky roof) and have gotten little as far as results go. Everything with these homes seems to need a contractor to be fixed and with that you rarely get a follow-up call, and when you do the appointments never happen. I will give credit where it?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s due and say that the maintenance workers are fantastic! I?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢ve never had a problem when they do come, but calling for a work order is just plain awful! Take my advice- make sure you get a work order number and do NOT lose it until the work has been completed! They often don?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢t log the repair in the computer and I?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢ve spent a few days waiting for workers that had no idea they were supposed to come to our house! We are currently trying to clear housing and we are now in a battle about the floors- they are demanding that we buff/wax them even though it states this wasn?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢t done upon move in. While I do leave the house in better condition than I received it, I am frustrated over this as the expense comes from my pocket, not theirs.

As of now, this housing area doesn?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢t seem to be an option anymore. We were told in Nov 2010 that the Army leases these homes from an outside company and the lease would be up in spring 2011. We?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢ve gotten no other information but given that this area is now about 60% empty and the housing wait list is 6-12mths, I think it?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s safe to say they are just clearing folks out and not bringing new ones in. If they do decide to rent them back out, just beware.

You might not want to live in Horizon City because you think it?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s too far, if you can?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢t get a house on post then this might be a good option for you, while it?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s a little farther away and you might have to spent more money on gas, you could save money on housing expenses. Traffic can slow you down so that you might take longer than 20 mins to get to Bliss. They also have a newsletter site: myhorizoncity.com ?¢‚Ǩ‚Äú great idea.

There are apartments outside of one of the gates (Jeb Stuart) that have good prices and are on a safe side of El Paso. Just wherever you go DO NOT move to Mountain View apts. I have lived here since a few months after we got stationed here ?¢‚Ǩ¬¶and they are rude to military members and only show hospitality to their mexican renters! The only reason we havent moved yet is because they charge up the butt for moving fees. You also dont want to live on dyer st. Its right outside of the main gate and is one of the most dangerous places to live, definitely if you have kids. They say that El Paso is the second safest city in America?¢‚Ǩ¬¶they lied! Im not saying that its the worst place to live or anything, its just hectic! The drivers are crazy?¢‚Ǩ¬¶as they are just about anywhere but as for post I have always felt safe. No post is not perfect either but I feel a lot safer and less nervous concerning the people when I am on post among fellow military families ect! I hope this helps!
