yle="font-family: Tahoma; font-size: small;">My husband is going to go to Huachuca for AIT...unfortunately I will not be on his orders as AIT is 16 weeks. I have two little boys and am trying to decide whether to move there anyway so we can be close when my husband does get passes. I was wondering if I could get some information about the Sierra Vista area and how safe it is for my situation with being so close to the Mexican Border. Any help would be appreciated!

Deanna D. asks: I'm looking for reviews/information on U.S. Fort Huachuca.  Specifically information on middle & high schools housing and weather info.  Thanks!

Stephanie L. says:  We just PCSed from Huachuca! WE LOVED IT! We have been twice and even bought a house there! The high school in town is Buena H.S and is quite large. We have a little guy so I can't tell you much about the school. The schools on post have been either remodeled or rebuild 2 ele and 1 mid. There have been TONS of new housing built on post...TONS...and they are beautiful! The weather is pretty nice all year. Because the area is surrounded by mountains it is usually 10 degrees cooler than Tucson and 15-20 degrees cooler than Phoenix. It can get pretty windy at times. If you have any other questions...just let me know!

Heather M. says:  My son is there right now for AIT and evidently loves the weather!

Fort Huachuca Arizona -Army April 2010 -present Situated about 20 miles north of Mexican border in the south eastern corner of the state. Sierra Vista is a small town but has a mall 2 movie theaters Target Walmart Petsmart Lowes & Home Depot Big lots Safeway Food City. Tucson is about one hour away for more shopping & events. Tombstone is about a 20 minute drive & is full of History! Bisbee is a neat town to walk through. Its a small post. We do have a bowling alley with a diner inside movie theater arts & crafts center 3 shopettes (2 with class sixes) Burger King PX (has Starbucks & a few other eating places inside) Commissary Game Stop Baskin Robbins Popeyes. Batting cages paintball range. They are planning to build a go cart track soon. I think the PX is small but nice. A little over priced for my taste but thats just me. Commissary is decent. I do all our shopping there. Just avoid it on payday like anywhere else! Check out Reservoir Hill for a great view of the area. It's back by Old Post. It does get hot here. Like 100+ hot. BUT its NOT humid at all. So 100 feels more like 90. From mid June to mid Sept we have Monsoon season. It rains for a brief amount of time almost everyday during this period. Sometimes pretty hard. Flash flooding happens! Monsoon season also brings out the bugs :/ Like roaches that are 3-4 inches long. Black beetles. Spiders. Wind Scorpions. & flies! Maintenance will come out once a month to spray around your home. TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THIS! I love the weather here! Winters are mild. It will snow but only like 1-2 inches & its gone by 8-9am when the sun warms up. I have not worn a coat since we moved here. Hoodies & sweaters were fine for me last winter. There is LOTS of hiking to do! I recommend seeing Tombstone & Bisbee. There is a cooper mine in Bisbee that you can tour. If you love History there is alot of it around here! We found a ghost town called Fairbank & it was a neat little hiking excursion. Little old buildings that they are re-building. You have to get out & drive around to find things to do. I like to explore so I am never bored. So many people say there is nothing to do here but they are the ones who never leave post or never decide to see where a road will take them. There is lots to see & do around here. You just have to be open minded to try new things & willing to get out there & do it! http://www.huachuca.army.mil/site/Visitor/index.asp http://www.cityoftombstone.com/ http://www.tombstoneweb.com/ http://www.sierravistaaz.gov/ http://www.mwrhuachuca.com/ http://www.fthuachuca.k12.az.us/fthuachuca/site/default.asp www.facebook.com/u.s.armyforthuachuca http://sierravistapublicschools.com/Buena/ svherald.com/ http://www.bisbeearizona.com/ http://www.discoverbisbee.com/ http://www.ghosttowns.com/states/az/az.html http://www.ourladyofthesierras.org/ http://www.nps.gov/coro/index.htm

We are in the Sierra Vista, AZ area. We are southeast of Tuscon, about 20 miles north of Mexico. It?「どィび「s a really quiet, nice place to live. I am an army spouse. My husband is in an MI battalion. There is a bowling alley and a diner on post, swiming pool, lots of outdoor recreation.

This was our first post so let?「どィび「s hope I can cover the important stuff. We live on post (in the old housing) which is really bad and only used for students coming for AIT with their families. They have swamp coolers & furnaces. They are in the process of tearing them all down in phases & building new ones. The newer houses are very nice & have lots of room. They have duplexes and single houses. No apartments on post. The Commissary & PX are both very small & not a huge selection. We do most of our grocery shopping off post. Fry?「どィび「s Grocery on Fry Boulevard has a discount card you can get and save on a lot of different foods. They have a starbucks inside the store & the best produce section in town.
Fry Boulevard is the street you are on when you leave post at the Main Gate. Everything is on Fry except for the Mall, Best Buy, & some restaurants are on Hwy 92 which connects with Fry. The Walmart is very ghetto & not clean. However they are in the process of building a new Walmart on Hwy 90 which also connects with Fry Blvd. The post is an open post since it?「どィび「s historical. Anyone with a valid DL can get a pass to come on post.
