Maria L. asks: We are PCS'ing to Ft. Jackson in April. Does anyone know anything about the schools on post I have a 11 8 6 and 3 year old. And also is their a long waiting list for housing? Thanks in advance!

Tamara J. says: There really isn't a long wait list. The on post schools are pretty decent. There are two schools. CC Pinckney is grade 3-6 and Pierce Terrace is Pre-K to 2nd. There are a lot of new housing available. Once your spouse gets a hard copy of their orders you may sign up for housing.

You will want your kids to attend school in Richland 2. Check out the school district?「どィび「s website as well as the zoning map, if you plan to live off post. Some of the schools are better than others so it is also a good idea to check out greatschools.org to check their ratings as well as talk to other parents in the area about where their kids go to school and what they like and don?「どィび「t like about it. There are several magnet programs in the district as well that each have their own special emphasis/learning style. There is one geared towards fine arts, one for math and science, etc.

District 2 is the best school district for elementary, middle and high school. Also located in Columbia is USC, Benedict College, Allen University and Columbia College. There are several 2 year colleges. South University and The University of Phoenix also have campuses here.

I have heard the schools on post are not very good. Since being here they seem okay. The staff and teachers are great.

The Fort Jackson schools are attended by dependent children in grades Pre-Kindergarten through 6th grade who reside on federal property in the vicinity of Columbia, South Carolina. There are two schools at Fort Jackson. Pierce Terrace Elementary accommodates children in grades Pre-Kindergarten through 2nd grade. Pinckney Elementary serves children in grades 3 through 6th grade
