Natalie K said about on base housing: We lived in the Moose Haven neighborhood. Single story dubplex with a basement. We love where we live. The type of homes we live in were recently renovated on the inside so it was pretty nice. Some houses have no fences and i wish they all had fences. Ours did not. The manitanence people were pretty nice. I never had any issues with them. Move in inspection happened before housing was privitazed and it went well. Have not had move out inspection yet. Im kinda scared of it. Im pretty sure we will have to pay some money due to cats clawing the insulation around the pipes in the basement and the carpet will probably have to be replaced ......................................about off base housing:Dont live in Anchorage. there are patches of good areas laced in with bad areas. The area around base is pretty scummy in my opinion. I would reccommend Eagle River and the Wasilla/ Palmer area for off base housing. The commute would be pretty long for Wasilla/ Palmer but there are quite a few military families who live out that way.

Flipcam GiveAway entry:
Housing on installation?

The housing is different. There are a lot of different housing sections, some are older and some are newer. I live in some of the newer which is in the Silver Run section and they look great on the outside as well as the inside. Pretty much all the housing on base is two stories. Some housing units have basements. Some yards are bigger than others. All in all they are really nice. My house is one of the best houses I?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢ve had on a base. Depending on when you get to the base the waiting list could be a lot longer. When we got here, we waited about 2 weeks before moving into our house, others have waited 45 days. Housing off installation? I can?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢t give too much information on this since I don?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢t live off base, but I do have friends that do. They have some housing a little close to base. A lot of them don?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢t look so good on the outside, areas seem kind of sketchy, but on the inside they look really nice. There are quite a few areas people don?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢t want to live in based on feeling safe. The safest and nicest place a lot of people move to is Eagle River, it?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s about 10-15 minutes from base depending on traffic. Some also choose to live in Wasilla but that is a good 45 minutes away, and in the winter probably longer.

We got housing about a month after we got here. The army and air force are now joined and either could live on both bases. I live in Cherry Hill on the air force side. These are the largest units that gives you a basement and almost 2600 square foot of living space. NO two units in Cherry Hill are the same. The B units house the boiler room in the basement and this cuts out some of the basement space. Other than that, there is ample storage in the units. I absolutely love it! All utilities are included.
Housing off installation?
Housing off post are very expensive. I do not have much information about this. Since we have such a long winter, utility must be a factor when securing an off base unit.

Housing on installation?

We LOVE our house. Two story, 3br, 2 and half bath with heated garage. They are privatizing housing over the next few months and are taking down all out of date houses. By the end of it, there won?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢t be any homes less than three bedrooms. There is a wait list but it goes pretty fast between getting a place on the Army or the Airforce side.

Housing off installation?
the best place to live off base is in Eagle River. It is 8 miles from post and it nice and safe for everyone. It has everything you need like Wal-mart and other shops but close enough to drive into Anchorage when needed. The housing office on post has a list of places they work with/support.

From the discussion boards on facebook.com/militarydutystations :

?¢‚Ǩ‚Äú?¢‚Ǩ¬ùI know there are Army people on Elmendorf side, so you might even ask if you can get a house on this side of base. I know we got on house on Elmendorg within 3 days of moving here. Good Luck!?¢‚Ǩ¬ù
