Housing on installation?

Tell us how your experience. We have had a wonderful housing experience. We are fortunate to have a large unit because of my Husbands rank and our family size we have the largest unit offered, which is 4 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, eat in kitchen, livingroom diningroom, 2 laundry rooms, den and 2 patios. 1950 sgft. We are also fortunate that behind almost every housing unit the is a playground, so ours is right out the back door!! The moving process we very simple and straight forward. Yo meet at the housing office, fill out some paperwork, and then you are escorted to housing with 2 of the housing people and you do the walk through with them to make note of any problems. The issues we had were fixed immediatley, which was wonderful. We did not have to wait for housing when we got our orders, we called and we were actually offered 2 options which was really nice. ANother awesome feature living on Fort Wadsworth is we are on the beach, thats right a beach! Its called South Beach :) The commisary and px is across the Verrazano bridge on Fort Hamilton, be prepeared to pay a 13$ toll to come back to Staten Island, Easy Pass offers a Military Discount! Up to 50% off the toll prices. Fort Wadsworth does have a small Coast Guard exchange it is a little pricey on some items though.
Housing off installation? Tell us, give us tips! Staten Island is hit or miss with housing off base. SOme areas are great some are not so great! Being on base you have more options of sending your children to school, you do not have to send them to the ?¢‚Ǩ?ìzoned?¢‚Ǩ¬ù school, you can send your children to the higher ranked schools. Traffic is pretty horrible at certain times of day, mornings, afterschool, rush hour other times its a breeze.
