For family members with special needs Hurlburt offers Exceptional Fitness Program:

March 24 2011 marked the start of the Exceptional Fitness Program. Once a week program participants meet for a forty-five-minute class that promotes overall physical fitness through exercises focused on strength flexibility and endurance. At the end of each class students receive a short instruction on nutrition. The program takes place in six-week sessions and is open to individuals authorized to use base facilities who are fourteen or older with a physical medical emotional or behavioral need. Classes are taught by qualified staff members. Participants are assigned a ?ɬ¢?¢?¬¨?Ö?buddy?ɬ¢?¢?¬¨?Ǭù who can modify activities as needed to accommodate each participant?ɬ¢?¢?¬¨?¢?¬¢s disabilities or physical limitations.

There is a lot to do around this base?¢‚Ǩ¬¶ There is the Gulf breeze Zoo, The Gulfarium, The Butterfly House (free) and tons more up and down HWY 98. Also if you can go to ITT and get discount tickets to a lot these attractions. Another thing is Orlando, FL is only 7hr drive away and if you go to ITT you can great prices on places to stay in Orlando. My husband and I actually took our son(whom was 6months at the time) there on his R&R and stay in a condo for almost a week for under $400. It was in January, which is the off season but it was still cheaper then other places. It was a gated community, with washer/dryer, dishwasher, full size fridge, and even a coffee pot! I was awesome!

Hurlburt is a good looking base. This base is rich with parks and walking/bike trails. They have a great youth and teen center and a wonderful library. There are reasonable golf lessons at the base course. We have a nice pool and a small water park. Eglin has a bigger/fancier water park. One of the gyms offers a couple different kinds of karate and gymnastics. Locally there are a few different dance schools, a couple gymanstics schools. We no longer have a base movie theatre and our nicest stadium seating theatre is 30 minutes away in Destin. There are a lot of boardwalks and shopping centers that hold events for children throughout the year such as Uptown Station, Destin Commons, Harborwalk Village and Baytowne Wharf. Uptown station has Playground Music where they teach all music classes. Uptown station and Destin Commons both have water parks. The base has all the typical youth center sports offered.
