Housing on installation?
Tell us how your experience. I like the housing on post, maintance comes quickley and the houses are ok. Housing off installation? Tell us, give us tips! I would live in the Lacey/Olympia Areas or Dupont area. The rest are not so great. Lacey is a military community. Prices are about 1200-1300 for a 3 bedroom house. takes about 15-20 min to get to post, 17 miles away in Lacey.

We really like our housing on Mcchord. The housing is single story duplexes where we are. Each unit is a little different, but ours is hardwood floors throughout, a large fenced in backyard and a nice size carport with storage shed. We haven?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢t had any issues with housing and any maintenance issues have been quickly resolved.

Tell us how your experience. We moved directly into housing within 10 days of signing in. This is a great base to live on we currently reside on post housing in the Broadmoor housing development. Living on post affords us the simplicity of having everything within a 5- 30 minute walk, which is especially easy on the wallet. We are planning to move to McChord family housing due to the current house renovations. Housing off installation? Tell us, give us tips! Nice areas to live near the base are Lacey, Dupont and rural Yelm. Dupont is more a utopia type town just across from Fort Lewis. Lacey is about 10 to 15 minutes south of the base and Yelm is a quaint rural town southeast of the base, here it is more of a small town atmosphere.?¢‚Ǩ¬ù

?¢‚Ǩ?ìHousing on installation?
Unless you?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢re an Officer, single soldier, or childless couple, housing is ?¢‚Ǩ?ìsubstandard?¢‚Ǩ¬ù. It?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s small, dingy, and not worth your BAH. However, we are joined with Air Force base McChord Field and we can live on McChord, so if you have children, and don?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢t want to live off base, I recommend McChord. Housing off installation? There are several landlords in several surrounding cities that have a program RPP (rental partnership program) and equity has the homes for heroes program which both offer 5% off your rent each month and waive all deposits and fees. Check with housing for a list. Lakewood is very close to the base, but beware some parts of lakewood are ghetto. Lacey is south of the base and is nice, Federal way is far but is very nice, and is close to tons of shopping and is about 20 minutes to Seattle. Check craigslist if you?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢re looking to go off base, check in spanaway, graham, lakewood, parkland, tacoma, all are very close to the base.?¢‚Ǩ¬ù

If you have pets, especially large dogs, it can be difficult finding off-post housing (which is pretty much standard everywhere now). I lived in Madrona Pointe apartments, in South Tacoma, when we first arrived in Washington because it was one of the few places that allowed large breed dogs (we have a 70lb shepherd/husky mix). The rent is reasonable and the staff is very friendly. The drawbacks are mostly the horrendous traffic on I-5 getting to and from post, as it is about 15 miles away and driving on the interstate is one of the most stressful experiences I?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢ve ever had. That and breaking the lease if you get called for on-post housing can be difficult. They wanted us to pay $1500 to break the lease and move out early. The military clause they honor only covers moving out due to deployment. http://www.madronapointeapartments.com/
